Lawyers
for the Arts (LFA) recruits and places attorneys to work on
volunteer legal projects with nonprofit arts organizations. The
LFA program is the only one of its kind in San Diego, and is the
region's most effective way to establish direct, hands-on professional
relationships between San Diego's arts and legal communities.
The
Lawyer Referral Program matches attorneys willing to donate
their time and expertise to those arts and cultural organizations
needing specific legal assistance that is outside their budget.
LFAs work on a project-by-project basis, rather than being assigned
to a particular client for an indefinite period of time to address
many needs. LFAs have provided expertise in areas including: contracts,
copyright, patent and trademark, employee law, facilities leases,
nonprofit incorporation, immigration, labor relations, insurance,
and tax matters.
LFAs are invited
to periodic Member Mixers - networking and cultural events enabling
attorneys to meet like-minded peers and learn more about involvement
with San Diego's cultural sector.
Attorneys admitted
to the California State Bar who are also members of the LFA program
are eligible to participate. There is a nominal LFA membership fee.

Arts organizations
- need a lawyer? Arts clients seeking LFA assistance must submit
an application for each legal need. The LFA program is designed
to provide legal assistance through volunteer attorneys on specific
client requests. LFA does not guarantee that all legal matters of
the organization will be settled.
