San
Diego OnBoard Arts Board Development Program trains,
recruits, and matches business professionals as board members to
arts groups, with specific goals in mind:
- To recruit
and train qualified board members for arts organizations of all
sizes
- To upgrade
the quality of arts board members so they know their responsibilities
and are familiar with key nonprofit arts organization issues
- To provide
and make available to arts organizations an ongoing pool of diverse,
qualified board members able to make their board function with
maximum, sustained effectiveness
- To assist
business, civic, and community volunteers to increase their own
management and leadership skills and thus become more effective
contributors to society as a whole
Program components
include:
- An annual
workshop series for arts staff and new and existing board
members on topics relating to effective board governance
- Annual roundtable
discussions for executive directors and board presidents to
discuss topical issues facing their boards
- The recruitment,
training, and matching of volunteers with arts boards
Board
Training for Arts Organizations, Creating
an Effective Board -
This
interactive workshop facilitated by Non-Profit Management Solutions
clearly defines the role and reponsibilities of board members and
staff, and offers tools to build a more effective board. The
course covers assessing organizational needs; attracting, recruiting
and retaining board members; governance and legal/fiduciary responsibilities;
and successful orientation, training and ongoing board education.
Attendance at this workshop is required by those arts organizaions
wishing to apply for a board member match through San Diego OnBoard.
Board
Training for Volunteers - In collaboration with Non-Profit
Management Solutions, the San Diego Performing Arts League hosts
OnBoard Candidate training for individuals interested in
joining the board of directors of an arts organization. Completion
of the training is required for individuals to be matched with an
arts organization board through the San Diego On Board
program.
