Seeks Professional Arts Educator for 2008-2009

 

The Opportunity

 

The City of Poway, California owns and operates The Poway Center for the Performing Arts located in north San Diego County at 15498 Espola Road . The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation (POW!), a 501 c 3 not for profit organization has an exclusive contract with the City of Poway to produce the Center's annual professional performance season. The Foundation implements arts in education initiatives funded by grants, gifts and an endowment in cooperation with the Poway Unified School District . The Poway Center Foundation seeks to identify a qualified independent contractor to facilitate public school programs and pilot interpretive programs for adults for a one year period beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2009.

 

Scope of Work

 

Reporting to the Foundation's Executive Director, the arts education contractor will administer programs such as elementary schools artist residencies, a drama camp and interpretive aspects of family friendly main stage musicals. The contractor also will research, develop and implement plans for interpretive programs for POW! concert audiences. Other responsibilities include: preparation of a master calendar of 2008/2009 education programs and activities; contracting of guest experts; researching and writing grant proposals and project evaluations and producing interpretive materials such as study guides and bibliographies.   To accomplish these objectives, the contractor will work with the Foundation's Poway Unified School District liaison to organize and promote educational programs throughout the district and include PUSD teachers and administrators in the process, when appropriate.  In addition, the contractor will work with POW! board members serving on the Arts and Education Committee and Foundation staff.

 

Qualifications

 

The ideal independent contractor will have knowledge and understanding of arts education theory; familiarity with public school systems; an understanding of computer software applications; appropriate writing style and telephone, e-mail and interpersonal skills; knowledge and understanding of the education and performing arts scene and a general familiarity with the practices and procedures of not for profit arts organizations and/or local government agencies.

 

Compensation

 

The amount of the one year contract is twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000).
