San
Diego Arts Economic Impact Report Released
As promised
by Mayor Dick Murphy in his 2003 State of the City Address, the
City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture co-hosted San
Diegos first annual State of the Arts and Culture Address
at Copley Symphony Hall. More than 1,200 people were in attendance.
The Commission
also released its 2002 arts economic impact report at the address.
The report reveals that in 2002, the 85 non-profit arts and culture
organizations supported by the City provided more than 5,600 job
opportunities, had direct spending of more than $116 million, and
sold more than 1.66 million out-of-city admissions which contributed
an additional estimated $217 million to our local economy. In total,
city-funded organizations had admissions of 4.8 million in in 2002,
more than the Padres and Charges combined. To view the complete

A New Awareness
Campaign for the Performing Arts
Come for a Change of Scenery
is the message of for a new League-sponsored campaign designed to
build awareness and attendance for League programs and members performances.
The multi-year campaign will utilize advertising and public relations
to create "top of mind" awareness of the performing arts for visitors
and residence. The campaign is build around the slogan, MUSIC
DANCE THEATRE LIFE, which appears on all League materials and
promotions.

Diego Arts Notoriety Hits New Heights
For the first
time ever, San Diego is listed among Conde Nast Traveler's Top Ten
U.S. Cities. Readers were polled about their favorite travel destination
and San Diego's ascension was attributed in part to our large selection
of quality arts and culture.
This distinguished
demonstrates that San Diego is a lot than just the sand, surf and
sun!
This honor comes
just weeks after Travelocity.com named San Diego the "Newest Cultural
Mecca in the United States."
